So, I changed him into an unconventional character: a modern pirate turned Catholic priest, full of surprises. He thrives on unpredictability, and this shift has uncovered unexpected traits and dynamics.
Consider putting your character in a brand-new scenario. Has your gentle, maternal character spent too long in the kitchen? Let her experience a wild night out with friends?"dancing on tabletops and participating in unexpected antics might be just what she needs. If she feels awkward in a nightclub, throw in a twist like a run-in with a gang member. Anything can happen!
What if your enigmatic hero, whether human or alien, ends up at a PTA meeting for his overwhelmed sister? Will he offer to bring cupcakes to the next event, or will he disrupt the meeting in unexpected ways?
By thrusting your character into unfamiliar situations, you compel them to act in ways they wouldn’t normally. This exploration reveals their true nature, challenging them to confront fears and insecurities?"perhaps even developing new ones.
Such scenarios can breathe new life into your plot options, adding layers and depth to your characters and sparking fresh plot ideas.
Placing your characters in unexpected situations is an excellent way to enrich their development and keep your writing vibrant and engaging.
