In my fourth month as a resident of Alabama, it feels like I’ve always belonged here. Perhaps it's because the landscape reminds me of my native Pennsylvania, but more so, it's the warmth and love from my adoptive family that make it feel like home. The surrounding countryside is stunning. From my window, I’ve watched the bare trees slowly come to life, now flourishing in full glory. A late frost recently set them back, but their beauty endures.
Linda has two bird feeders outside my window?"one for larger birds and another for hummingbirds. Despite their tiny size, the hummingbirds have voracious appetites. Just last week, the feeder emptied rapidly, prompting Linda to check if it was assembled properly. It turns out our little feathered friends just have big appetites.
Twice, we’ve gone sightseeing after church with Jason, who drives a truck and knows the best spots to visit. He has a remarkable knack for finding places again, making him an excellent tour guide.
The properties around here are beautifully maintained, with lush, manicured lawns. Most homes are single-story or one-and-a-half stories tall. Of course, those with more wealth have stunning mansions, but such opulence doesn’t feel comfortable to me.
Do I miss my Florida friends? Naturally. After over 20 years, the connections are deep. Do I regret moving to Alabama? Not at all. Happiness comes from being where you’re loved, and here, I am truly cherished.
