My Adventure with Creative Writing
During my final semester of college, I found myself with a few hours to fill with elective classes. Having heard glowing reviews about the Creative Writing professor, I enrolled without giving much thought to the course content or its demands. Little did I realize that this class would become one of the most challenging experiences of my college journey.
As I entered the classroom on the first day, I was greeted by a sea of English and Art double majors. It was daunting to be among individuals who seemed to write poetry and captivating stories effortlessly. Gazing at the syllabus, I felt an overwhelming sense of impending failure. That evening, I even recalculated my credits, hoping to find a way to graduate without taking Creative Writing.
Despite my initial trepidation, I returned for the second class?"and every subsequent one throughout the semester. I was captivated by both the material and my classmates. This class became the most demanding yet enriching part of my education. Each session filled me with a mix of fear and excitement. I was apprehensive about the novel challenges but thrilled to engage in deep, thoughtful work.
The first half of the semester was dedicated entirely to poetry. Many late nights and tearful afternoons were spent crafting poems, a task that seemed to come naturally to my peers but not to me. Their words flowed with beauty and purpose, while mine stumbled clumsily. Our goal was to create ten polished poems, each meeting specific criteria.
Once we transitioned to writing short stories and scripts, the challenge remained formidable. Every assignment pushed me to my limits, right up until the final submission.
Ultimately, Creative Writing wasn’t just the toughest class I ever undertook; it became my favorite. This journey taught me resilience and sparked a passion for thinking and creating like never before.
