Today, I received two invitations from new article directory owners. While I'm flattered, I'd also like to point out that managing a directory is a challenging endeavor. As someone who has published several hundred articles online (and plans to continue doing so), I have some advice for directory managers. Interested? Keep reading.

My go-to site for submitting articles is EzineArticles.com. Why? It offers high volume, excellent service, strong article penetration, and effective search engine optimization. It also has great features like a blog, forum, and email updates. The manager, Christopher Knight, is actively involved, making it a dynamic platform.
2. Ask Permission First
Some of my articles have been reposted without my consent. With over 400 articles online, I might attract extra attention, but any platform should respect authors enough to ask permission. I once dealt with a web director who used my articles without notifying the authors. Needless to say, I won’t engage with platforms like that.
3. Stand Out from the Crowd
With new article software available, many are starting their directories. While competition is healthy, only the best will thrive. If you want authors like me to be interested, make your site unique. Use the software to its full potential and create something exceptional.
4. Boost Page Rank
My site has a page rank of 6, and I expect similar from directories I engage with. Many new sites haven’t been indexed by Google yet, which is crucial for visibility. Google, in my opinion, is unparalleled?"far surpassing MSN and Yahoo.
5. Focus on Details
While distributing articles widely is essential, attention to detail matters too. EzineArticles offers three resource boxes for authors, a feature I haven't seen elsewhere. It's these small things that make a big difference.
6. Define Your Direction
What’s your vision for your article directory? Do you have RSS feeds, collaboration agreements with other sites, or unique features? A blog where the manager shares updates can also be incredibly valuable.
