Occasionally, clients ask me to give their existing articles a fresh voice or style. I approach these projects with caution, ensuring that the client genuinely owns the content. I won't proceed unless I'm confident in the legitimacy of their claims.Upon receiving the articles, I meticulously review each one to determine the necessary improvements. Often, I'm confronted with poorly written work, yet I refrain from voicing my initial impressions to the client. However, I'm not hesitant to thoroughly overhaul the piece.
Armed with my trusty red pen, I dive into the text, crossing out sentences, correcting grammar, refining paragraphs, and adding notes. Sometimes, my edits overwhelm the original text, but this process is crucial.
If the project arrives on a disk, I first run a virus check. Then I open the articles in Microsoft Word, make my changes, and print them out. If there's no disk, I manually input the content along with my edits.
Typically, I revise each article two or three times to truly capture its essence before sending it back to the client for review.
To be honest, drafting an article from scratch is often easier than revamping an existing one. Yet, I relish the challenge, striving to transform the piece from an ugly duckling into a graceful swan. Ultimately, the satisfaction of a well-done job makes the effort worthwhile.
