One-Sentence Paragraphs
Please, spare me. One-sentence paragraphs should be rare. Unless you’re crafting a narrative or seeking dramatic effect, avoid them.
Long, Rambling Sentences
Punctuation is free! Periods are your friends. Some writers have seemingly forgotten this. Keep sentences concise. If you’re writing in a stream-of-consciousness style, that’s fine, but read your work aloud afterward. How do those ten-line sentences sound?
Linking Within the Body
Why clutter the body with links? I won’t publish articles with in-body links because it requires extra effort to hyperlink them. Insert all links in the byline instead. Repeat with me: "Links belong in the byline."
Spelling
Surprisingly, misspelled words don’t bother me because I’m not a great speller either. I’ll run your article through not one, but two spell checkers, so spelling isn’t a major concern.
Body Headlines
I appreciate the use of headlines within the article. It shows organization and clarity. Just ensure you capitalize the first letter of each word, because?"let’s face it?"I’m lazy.
The Last Paragraph
Your final paragraph should summarize the article's main point. It’s not the place for links, your website hints, or a biography. Include those in the byline.
