Ultimate Aero TT Sets New World Speed Record
The 2008 Ultimate Aero TT from Shelby Super Cars (SSC) has shattered expectations by setting a new world speed record for production cars. Initially predicted to surpass the Bugatti Veyron 16.4's record of 253.2 mph, the Aero TT lived up to the hype by achieving an astonishing speed of 256.15 mph, officially earning the title of "World's Fastest Production Car."
Powered by a remarkable twin-turbo V-8 engine, the Ultimate Aero TT delivers an impressive 1,183 horsepower and 1,094 ft.-lbs. of torque. Its speedometer reaches up to 260 mph, and in sixth gear at 7,200 rpm, its performance specs claim it can exceed 286 mph. This powerhouse can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 2.78 seconds and cover a quarter mile in under 10 seconds.
Weighing in with a 422-pound V-8 engine featuring an aluminum block and heads, the Aero TT is a marvel of engineering. With a redline at 7,200 rpm, its rear-wheel drive and mid-engine setup come wrapped in a lightweight body made from carbon fiber, composites, and a steel space frame. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires support it, measuring 19 by 9.5 inches in the front and 20 by 13 inches in the rear, while the ride benefits from unequal length upper and lower A-arms with coil-over springs in both the front and rear.
Despite its raw power and four-inch ground clearance, the Ultimate Aero TT doesn't compromise on luxury. Its interior is both sleek and sophisticated, featuring a roll bar that complements the car’s seats, a premium sound system, and a DVD navigation setup. It is available in 11 stunning colors, including yellow, purple, and plum.
The name Shelby has long been synonymous with high-speed, classic cars. However, there is no relation between Jarod Shelby, owner of SSC and creator of the Ultimate Aero TT, and the legendary Carroll Shelby. It seems the name just naturally aligns with automotive excellence.
