The Ultimate Nissan Skyline NISMO Z-TUNE
With the iconic R34 GT-R no longer in production, NISMO set out to create the ultimate Nissan Skyline GT-R. Drawing on years of experience in various racing arenas, NISMO aimed to design a vehicle that not only honored its racing heritage but also stood as a testament to engineering excellence.
Harnessing its success in motorsport, with notable achievements in the Gr-A, N1, GT500, and Nürburgring specifications, NISMO sought to blend high performance with modern drivability. The challenge was to craft a car that was both street-friendly and compliant with stringent emission standards.
Building the Dream
The concept began to take shape in 2000 when NISMO participated in the "Tuners Battle," with power capped at 600ps. Emerging victorious, the blueprint for the ultimate GT-R was ready for refinement. The challenge was to integrate comfort without sacrificing performance. Enhancements included a lighter brake and clutch feel, softer suspension, and luxuries like leather seats and air conditioning.
Shedding Weight, Gaining Rigidity
To balance added features without compromising speed, NISMO turned to carbon fiber. This not only reduced weight but also enhanced chassis rigidity. The door frames, front strut area, and center tunnel were meticulously spot welded and reinforced with CFRP. Aero components like the front bumper, blister fenders, and hood were crafted from high-strength carbon fiber, focusing on cooling and downforce.
The front bumper featured large air ducts, ensuring cool air reached the engine, brakes, and oil coolers efficiently. The fenders, widened by 15mm, improved tread accommodation while aiding in heat dissipation from the engine bay. Meanwhile, the hood’s ducts expelled hot air and directed cool air into the intake at high speeds. To boost downforce, front and rear under spoilers were installed.

At the core of the Nissan Skyline is the race-grade RB26DETT engine, renowned from the Le Mans 24-hour race, dubbed the Z2. This powerhouse delivers 368kW and 540Nm, crafted with precision by NISMO's expert mechanics. Carefully selected race-proven components ensure each engine meets the highest standards of quality and performance.
Ultimate Performance
