Pontiac Solstice: Edmunds.com's Most Significant Vehicle of the Year
The Pontiac Solstice, crafted by General Motors, made its mark this year by winning the prestigious "Most Significant Vehicle of the Year" award for 2006 from Edmunds.com, a leading online automotive resource. This accolade is part of the fifth annual Edmunds.com Consumers’ Most Wanted vehicle awards.
Last November, the Pontiac Solstice earned the same honor, and once again, it captured nearly half of the consumer votes in this year's competition, outpacing strong contenders like the Honda Civic and Chevrolet Corvette.
Karl Brauer, the editor-in-chief of Edmunds.com, remarked, “It’s fascinating to tap into consumers' minds. These awards offer insight into collective consumer impressions, while our forums and CarSpace give daily glimpses into individual opinions.” He noted a positive trend for domestic manufacturers, as Chrysler, Ford, and GM won twice as many awards as the previous year, signaling growing consumer favor.
Debuting this year, the Pontiac Solstice is a two-door roadster built on the FR Kappa platform, powered by a 2.4-liter Ecotec I4 engine. Designed by Wayne Cherry, it competes with notable vehicles such as the Nissan 350Z, Honda S2000, Mazda MX-5, and Chrysler Crossfire.
