One of the Park’s highlights is the Wgasa Bush Line Railway. This 40-minute tram ride covers three miles through the main sections of the Park and ventures into the San Pasqual Valley. As you travel through regions like North Africa, South Africa, the Asian Plains, and the Mongolian Steppe, a live narration from the tram driver enriches your knowledge about the wildlife. Who knew that a group of rhinos is called a crash? While this ride is perfect for older kids and adults, younger children might find the duration a bit long. Excitingly, a new transportation system is set to replace the railway in the spring of 2007.
A Feast for the Senses
The Park’s charm is enhanced by over 3,500 plant species and its Nairobi Village theme. Our visit coincided with a misty day, creating an enchanting rainforest-like atmosphere with babbling brooks and misty walkways. My daughter’s favorite spot was Lorikeet Landing, where, for just two dollars, you can purchase nectar to feed the vibrant lorikeets that will land on you in the atrium.
We then explored Lion Camp, another of my daughter's favorites. This new exhibit offers multiple perspectives of the lions, including a thrilling close-up view through a glass barrier. As a fan of carousels, I was particularly impressed by the Conservation Carousel, which features replicas of endangered animals from the Park instead of traditional horses.
Our adventure concluded with an Animal Encounter, where we got an up-close experience with a Caracal Cat and its trainer.
