1. Hermilo's Journey to Language Teaching
In the 1960s, I began working at the CIDOC, a center established by Ivan Illich. Though not a formal school, CIDOC was pivotal in teaching Spanish to volunteers heading to Latin America. When CIDOC closed in 1975, I founded IDEAL (Instituto de Estudios de America Latina) to continue my passion for teaching Spanish.
2. Cuernavaca: A Prime Language Learning Destination
The Spanish Language Schools Association in Cuernavaca, formed 11 years ago by 12 schools, collaborates with the Mexican government to promote the city as a global Spanish learning center. Cuernavaca’s appeal lies in its proximity to Mexico City and cultural attractions, offering a rich learning environment.
3. History and Evolution of Ideal School
After the end of CIDOC, I co-founded IDEAL with a colleague, creating a space for global students to learn Spanish and engage with Mexican culture. Today, along with my son, we focus on developing effective teaching methods.
