When the bridge finally opened, it was a day of celebration. Around 150,000 people and 1,800 vehicles crossed on the first day. Pedestrians paid one cent, while vehicles paid five cents. The Brooklyn Bridge was hailed as a triumph in art, society, and technology.
Today, the Brooklyn Bridge is a national historic landmark, inviting visitors to stroll across its 1,595-foot span. The walk takes about 30 to 60 minutes and offers breathtaking views, with historical plaques providing fascinating insights along the way.
