Hello From The Canadian Rockies - Part 18: Our Celebrity Breakfast at Twin Gables B&B
Introduction
Exploring new places through bed and breakfast travel is a treasured pastime for us, and the historic Twin Gables B&B in Calgary is no exception. Nestled in the upscale Mount Royal neighborhood, this 4.5-star-rated establishment is a mere 25-minute walk from downtown Calgary, with a quick 10-minute stroll to the vibrant restaurant scene on 4th Street. An ideal spot for our Calgary sneak peek, we indulged in the comfort of the Mount Royal Suite, complete with its own sitting area, private bathroom, in-suite jacuzzi, fireplace, and high-speed internet.
A Celebrity Encounter
Breakfast at a B&B is always a highlight, and this morning was particularly special. As we prepared to dine in the historic parlor, a familiar face caught our attention. My husband immediately recognized him: Michael Damian, known as Danny Romalotti from "The Young and The Restless."
Michael’s success extends beyond television, with achievements in music and theater, including leading roles in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and success on Broadway. He has released five albums and earned a BMI Songwriting Award. Now, he’s shifted to directing and producing films and music videos.
His wife, Janeen, is equally accomplished, having been a Solid Gold dancer with film credits in "Basic Instinct," "Footloose," and more, as well as numerous TV appearances. It was clear we were dining with true stars.
A Delightful Breakfast
Our breakfast began with yogurt and fresh fruits, followed by homemade blueberry scones. The main course was a delicious Western omelet with green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. As we chatted, Michael and Janeen shared that they were in Calgary to scout locations for their new movie project, produced through their company, Riviera Films. Their film "Hot Tamale" was set to premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Despite their fame, Michael and Janeen were grounded and engaging, making our breakfast feel like a chat with neighbors.
A Chat with the Owners
After breakfast, we spoke with Deirdre and Henry Brost, the owners of Twin Gables, to learn about its history. Built between 1910 and 1912 by lawyer Mr. Milliken, the house went through various ownerships and transformations over the years. In 1976, artists Marge and Tsak Rogers began renovating, a process completed by Deirdre and Henry when they acquired it four years ago.
Renovation Tales
Opening the B&B was an incredible journey. From unexpected rewiring adventures to sewer collapses, renovations were plentiful and challenging. Yet, both Deirdre and Henry cherished the process, preserving the home’s architectural charm and ensuring guests are always comfortable.
A Special B&B Experience
Deirdre and Henry’s dedication is evident throughout Twin Gables, from original light fixtures to rooms complete with private bathrooms and modern amenities. Their guests include international travelers and local romantics.
Both share a passion for hospitality, ensuring freshly made breakfasts are served on time and that guests feel well cared for.
Conclusion
Deirdre and Henry’s Twin Gables B&B offers an unforgettable experience, combining historic charm with personalized service. For more details, visit [Travel and Transitions](http://www.travelandtransitions.com/stories_photos/calgary_twin_gables.htm).
