Discover Lanzarote: A Day at Teguise Golf

A Golfer’s Paradise with Stunning Views

Before diving into my delightful experience at Teguise Golf, let's explore what makes this course a must-visit for golf enthusiasts. Nestled along the side of an ancient volcano in Lanzarote, the course offers breathtaking views of volcanic landscapes. Imagine playing amidst 3,000 palm trees with the Atlantic Ocean as your backdrop. Designed by César Manrique, Teguise Golf beautifully integrates nature with sport?"a testament to Lanzarote's commitment to preserving its unique environment.

Course Details: For the Golf Aficionado

For those eager to know the technical details: the course spans 6041m (White), 5582m (Yellow), 5289m (Blue), and 4938m (Red). Most visitors tee off from the Blue tees, where the course is 5289m (5791 yards for those using imperial measurements) and is a Par 72. The Slope Rating ranges from 124 to 130, depending on the tees, offering challenges for players of all skill levels.

A Golf Experience Like No Other

Designed by British landscape architect John Harris in 1978, Teguise Golf is renowned not only for its layout but also for its impeccable maintenance. The course enjoys Lanzarote's consistently pleasant climate, with refreshing sea breezes to balance the warm temperatures. Its layout features numerous doglegs, testing players’ skills and requiring the use of a wide range of clubs.

Our Memorable Golf Outing

Our day began bright and early at 7 AM in Playa Blanca, intending to start fresh and not interfere with the rest of the day’s plans?"gaining some "brownie points" from everyone involved.

Initially, there were four of us, but Gary, known for his weather whims, opted out last minute. Thus, Colin, his son David, and I embarked on our golfing adventure. We navigated the LZ-2, steering clear of Arrecife, to reach Costa Teguise.

Upon arrival, we discovered it was a members' day, with no tee times available for three hours. We negotiated and played holes 10-18 first, then returned for 1-9. A friendly singles game commenced?"with the loser treating us at the 19th hole!

Despite Colin’s strong start, he faced a setback reminiscent of Devon Loch’s infamous collapse in the 1956 Grand National. By the 18th hole, Colin found himself trailing (though I didn’t remind him of it often).

Colin shared that his wife Jackie loved the island and might return. Should we meet on the green again, I’m sure David will have dusted off the cobwebs, and Colin won’t burn out halfway through.

As for me, I relished every moment of our day out at Teguise Golf!
