Thailand Holiday Countdown
Word Count: 536
Summary:
With only 5 days left until my trip to Thailand, the Land of Smiles, it's time for some serious packing.---
Preparations:
For the past three weeks, I've been gradually packing for my three-week vacation in Khon Kaen, Thailand. I've been setting aside items I’ll need there but not here daily: my portable DVD player, digital camera, books, magazines, gifts, and other essentials.
Now, it’s time to finalize everything. I did my laundry yesterday, so I’m all set to start packing my clothes.
Clothing Essentials:
Packing for Thailand is fairly straightforward. I plan to bring two pairs of jeans, two pairs of slacks, a dozen dress shirts, and a dozen T-shirts. I’ll add six pairs of underwear, six pairs of socks, one pair of shoes, a couple of shorts, and shower slippers to complete my wardrobe.
Toiletries and Electronics:
My travel toiletry bag is always ready. I'll quickly check to ensure I have the basics, and I'll buy anything else when I arrive.
As for electronics, I’ll pack my laptop, cable, cell phone, and charger just before leaving. These go in my carry-on bag.
Gifts and Carry-On:
Most of my suitcase space will be filled with gifts for my girlfriend, her mother, and brother. Hawaiian print material, T-shirts, candy, a stuffed animal, sleepwear, and some small knick-knacks are included.
In my carry-on backpack, I’ll pack the laptop and cell phone, along with noise-canceling headphones, a camera, a book, a magazine, mints, and gum. I’ll also include the ticket, passport, itinerary, and some Hawaiian chocolate macadamia nuts.
Duty-Free and Currency:
At the airport, I'll stop by the duty-free shop for cigarettes and maybe another gift for my girlfriend. I’ll leave room in my carry-on for these.
In Bangkok, I won’t need to convert currency immediately, as I still have some Baht from my last trip. This should cover my first night. Later, I’ll exchange cash to Baht in Khon Kaen.
Financial Preparations:
I’ve already informed my credit/debit card company about my trip dates to prevent any holds on my card. I’m also carrying some cash as a backup. I prefer avoiding traveler’s checks due to their cost and limited exchange hours. My debit ATM card is the most convenient way to get Thai Baht.
Final Steps:
I’ll go through my checklist again, but I believe I'm nearly ready. I just have to get through three more days of work, catch my 4:30 AM shuttle, and endure the 15-hour flight. Soon, I'll be enjoying a wonderful vacation with my girlfriend. Amen.
