Water-Skiing Pirates and Daredevils: A Wisconsin Dells Highlight
Every year, families embark on the quintessential all-American vacation, and Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, is a must-visit in the Midwest, brimming with activities for all ages.
One classic attraction in the Dells is the Tommy Bartlett Show, renowned as one of the longest-running live water-ski, sky, and stage shows globally.
"The Tommy Bartlett Show began in 1953, and through its early touring groups and our annual summer runs in Wisconsin Dells, we've entertained millions of visitors through the decades," said Tom Diehl, president and co-owner of Tommy Bartlett, Inc.
This thrilling show now features "Pirates of Bartlett Bay," where a cast of water-skiing performers takes the stage. This 90-minute spectacle opens with the world-famous Tommy Bartlett Skiers performing daring stunts. With high-powered boats, breathtaking skiing tricks, flips, twists, and pyramids, Bartlett's Buccaneers dominate the waters.
"We showcase some of the greatest water-skiers in the nation. It looks effortless, but these stunts require immense skill and practice, performed precisely three times a day," Diehl noted.
Set in a tranquil cove on the beautiful Lake Delton, the Tommy Bartlett Show offers a natural outdoor amphitheater originally featuring simple plank seating in the 1950s. Today, it's a modern venue with 5,000 seats, half of which are covered.
Although rooted in water-skiing, the show has evolved into a multifaceted performance with stage and aerial acts. In the second half of "Pirates of Bartlett Bay," audiences enjoy a mix of thrilling acts, juggling, comedy, choreographed water fountains, and laser lights.
The Nerveless Nocks are longtime favorites, mesmerizing audiences on the "Wheel of Destiny." Without harnesses or nets, these world-class stunt performers execute tricks on a rotating 65-foot-high double wheel. Among them is 8-year-old Cyrus Nock, one of the youngest thrill performers globally.
Other young talents include Hunter and Carson, sons of T.J. Howell. Howell combines humor with skillful juggling?"using everything from bowling balls to ping-pong balls?"and expert unicycle riding. His sons impress with unicycle tricks, earning laughter and applause.
Comedian Geechy Guy rounds out the stage acts. Holding the Guinness World Record for the most jokes told in an hour?"676, to be exact?"Geechy started in comedy on "Star Search" in the 1990s. With appearances on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and regular spots on "The Bob and Tom Show," his goofy style and quick quips have earned him the title "King-of-the-One-Liners."
The Tommy Bartlett Show runs three times daily at 1:00, 4:30, and 8:30 p.m., from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day (1:00 p.m. shows start the last Saturday in June). Come rain or shine, with over 15,800 performances to date, this show remains a cherished tradition of wholesome family entertainment.
