What Is God Where Is God

What Is God? Where Is God?
Introduction
Understanding the concept of God can be challenging, especially if you weren't raised in a religious household. While I sense there's something greater than myself, I struggle to define or experience it.
Perceptions of God
Growing up, I was taught to view God as judgmental and punishing, which makes the concept anxiety-inducing for me. How can I embrace God if I associate Him with control and judgment?
Moreover, with so many terrible things happening in the world, it's hard to reconcile the idea of a loving God with the existence of suffering.
Challenging Traditional Views
The traditional depiction of God as male doesn't resonate with me either, as my experiences with men have often involved anger and control. I don't feel comfortable opening up to a male deity.
These sentiments are common among my clients as I guide them in seeking personal spiritual guidance.
A Different Perspective on God
The New Testament provides a different view of God:
- John 4:24 states, "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
- 1 John 4:8 says, "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love."
- 1 John 4:16 adds, "God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him."
From this perspective, God is Spirit and love. When we embody love, we are in tune with God, and God is within us.
My Personal Experience
I've found that God embodies love, peace, joy, and truth and exists both within us and around us. When we open our hearts to love and compassion, we experience God's presence.
God continually guides us toward our highest good. I encourage my clients to envision a spiritual guide, whether a mentor, guardian angel, or the wisest part of themselves, to access the wisdom that God offers. This connection opens us to God’s love and guidance.
Embracing Spiritual Guidance
Experiencing this guidance is our birthright. We weren’t left to navigate life alone. By seeking to learn from God, my clients have shed beliefs that no longer serve them?"such as viewing God as punishing or absent.
To truly know God, focus on loving actions towards yourself and others. When your goal is to learn how to love, rather than seeking love or avoiding pain, you will experience God personally.
Finding Your Own Path
If the term "God" triggers negative feelings, try using "Spirit" or "Higher Power." God is not bound by a name. Instead, God represents the continuous presence of love, compassion, truth, peace, and joy, always available when you open your heart.
Conclusion
Discovering what God means to you is a personal journey. Open your heart to the possibilities of love and guidance, and you may find the peace and joy you've been seeking.
