Religion: Institution or Revolution?
Summary:
Writing about religion involves risks like disagreement or offense. However, that shouldn't deter us. Sharing genuine beliefs is important, even if it challenges comfort.
Article Body:
Discussing religion may offend some, but it’s crucial to express genuine beliefs. Many churches and religious institutions have become more focused on power, money, and politics rather than their spiritual missions.
Jesus emphasized reaching out to the community, helping the poor, the sick, and spreading His teachings. He promised to provide for us if we use His blessings to fulfill His work and bring Him glory. Yet, many churches focus on financial survival, treating themselves like businesses rather than bastions of faith.
Church involvement in politics is another modern focus. They lobby, donate, and campaign, but questions arise about whether tithes, meant for God’s work, should support political ambitions. Nowhere does the Bible suggest that helping politicians is a rightful use of these offerings.
Jesus didn’t seek political power or force compliance through laws. He taught right from wrong, giving people the choice to follow Him. Our role isn’t to rely on governments to enforce morality; it’s to teach God’s word and offer the choice Jesus provides.
Often seen as meek and mild, Jesus was also a revolutionary. He challenged religious and governmental authority, advocating for the oppressed, and ministering to sinners. He prioritized engaging with unbelievers rather than just preaching to the converted.
Instead of becoming rigid institutions, churches should lead revolutions of kindness and outreach. Resources should pour into helping those in need, rather than preserving buildings. Church should be a place for believers to worship and teach about Christ to others.
Christians are tasked with more than attending church and praying. We are charged to transform communities and the world by spreading His teachings. Avoid hiding and waiting for rescue; embrace the revolutionary spirit Jesus exemplified. Allow God to use you for His purpose, making it not about personal gains, but about fulfilling His will.
