Article Body:
In recent years, shocking events have highlighted a troubling shift in societal values. We've seen a mother drown her children for the affections of a wealthy boyfriend, a skater sabotage her rival, and a woman steal an unborn child. These incidents reflect a broader issue: have we raised a generation prone to selfishness and crime?
Our children are often handed everything on a silver platter. When confronted with the realities of adulthood, the lack of discipline and gratitude becomes evident. We've forgotten the humble days of our ancestors?"pioneers and immigrants?"who were grateful for the basics.
Today's society often borrows from the language of greed, focusing on prosperity rather than salvation. Churches are now more likely to focus on financial growth than spiritual rebirth. Experts in psychology and sociology warn us that poverty can lead to societal decay. Imagine an America where essentials become scarce?"it paints a bleak picture.
The prophet Ezekiel once rebuked the ancient city of Sodom, not just for the infamous sins, but for deeper issues: pride, gluttony, and neglecting the poor. His warning echoes today as many refuse to help those in need but ignore astronomical spending on frivolous pursuits.
Government and societal waste abound while personal responsibility seems forgotten. Where does this endless cycle lead?
America may face chastisements akin to the dust bowl and stock market crashes, multiplied manifold. This dire future is avoidable if we turn back to God with humility. Yet, this path seems unlikely for many.
In my time as a musician, I've explored themes of American culture through folk, bluegrass, and gospel. One original song, "An American Lament," presents a Christian message subtly, without overt sentimentality.
An American Lament:
Many tall mountains, many long valleys
Many the white plains, that stretch out so far
Deep flowing rivers crest to meet me
Two shimmering oceans with sandy shores
Dark woodlands with bending trees
The soft west wind drives waves ashore
The eagle soars in blue skies
The master of all he surveys
Her people with proud eyes rest carefree
Leaving strong towers, moving to and fro
Beauty surrounds them?"mountains and rivers
Yet they fumble like blind men
Bards and poets sing bright songs
But seekers sense something is amiss
To grow into greatness, the heart must ache
This land is not my home, though it's beautiful
I’ve yet to find my true place
