Teens in our country are optimistic about the future, yet many find themselves stuck between hope and opportunity, as revealed by a recent survey. Struggling with issues such as neighborhood violence and the difficulties of completing high school, many young people feel disconnected from genuine opportunities for their future.

In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), a leading youth service organization, conducted the "Youth Report to America." Sponsored by American Express, this national survey gathered insights from over 46,000 young individuals.

The findings show that nearly one-third of teens yearn for a less-violent world. Meanwhile, close to one-fourth cited the possibility of going to war as their greatest fear. Almost half believe a college education is crucial for a successful career, yet more than a quarter worry about not graduating high school. Additionally, nearly half acknowledge their parents as significant influences on their decisions.

BGCA is poised to help bridge this gap. Throughout the year, they are mobilizing youth to collaborate with parents, community officials, and political leaders, aiming to develop new initiatives and enhance existing programs that address these pressing concerns.

"After a century of serving our nation's youth, providing a safe haven for learning and growth, we chose to celebrate our centennial by giving young people a platform to voice their opinions to the nation," stated Roxanne Spillett, BGCA’s president.

BGCA remains committed to serving youth through the creation of innovative programs that adapt to societal changes, from teaching online safety through technology initiatives to promoting diversity education and tolerance in our multicultural society.

Since 1906, BGCA has been instrumental in helping young people connect with opportunities for personal growth and success, offering services that enhance their health, social, educational, vocational, and character development.
