Do You Know an Inspiring Older Worker?
Is there someone in your life aged 65 or over who's still making a significant impact at work? Whether it's a relative, neighbor, or colleague, they deserve national recognition for their career achievements and contributions to the community. The Experience Works Prime Time Awards program is now accepting nominations to honor remarkable older workers from each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. This program also recognizes America’s Oldest Worker and top employers who support older workers.
Are They Eligible?
To qualify for the title of a state's outstanding older worker or America’s Oldest Worker, nominees must be at least 65 years old and currently employed, working a minimum of 20 hours per week. They should also be available to travel to Washington, D.C., for an event in September 2006.
Celebrating Centenarians
In 2005, Dwight Hauff, the 100-year-old owner of Hauff Sporting Goods in Sioux City, Iowa, was honored as America’s Oldest Worker. Previous recipients have impressively included individuals over 100 years old, such as a 102-year-old real estate developer, a professor, an architect, and a manufacturer. In 2004, Ella Clarke Nuite, a 100-year-old owner of a spring water company, became the first woman to receive this prestigious award.
The Average Age is 80
Past honorees have ranged from 66 to 100, with the average age being 80. These outstanding workers participate in various activities and events throughout the year, culminating in a celebration in Washington, D.C. in September.
