Winters here are unpredictable. In 1976, continuous mild spells filled our bay with slushy ice?"too thick for a boat yet too fragile to walk on. We were stranded for three months, from January to March. Conversely, last winter's deep freeze solidified the bay, letting us walk to the mainland whenever we needed supplies."
Today, many of us benefit from the internet, granting the freedom to work from virtually anywhere. But this couple didn’t have that opportunity. I use past tense because I haven’t found any current information about them. Who knows? Perhaps the tides carried them away.
Life is about making sacrifices, some more significant than others. Personally, purchasing an island isn't in my future.
