The adventure began as they headed to their hotel in Jeff’s pristine 1968 Camaro RS, only to lose a hubcap. After retrieving it, they continued their journey until a loud "thud" disrupted their plans.
While still wearing his wedding tuxedo, Jeff discovered a blown-out back tire. As he stepped out to inspect, the car?"along with his bride?"started rolling down a hill because he’d forgotten to put it in “park.”
"I could hear my beautiful bride screaming at the top of her lungs," recalled Jeff. He chased the car, which thankfully stopped in some bushes. "By now, my wife was in tears, wondering what's going to happen next."
Once they changed the tire and secured the hubcap, they resumed their trip. However, a bigger shock awaited them at the hotel.
“We arrived to find it had caught on fire the day before and was completely closed,” Jeff recounted. "Sitting in a parking lot at three in the morning on our wedding night without a place to stay was almost too much for my wife."
Determined, the newlyweds began searching for available rooms at other hotels.
"At one motel, as we stepped outside after being told there were no vacancies, our car was gone?"stolen!" Jeff exclaimed.
Luckily, the motel took pity and found them a room. Exhausted, they slept until 2 p.m. the next day before heading home.
In recognition of their misadventure, Thrifty Car Rental awarded the Wests a second honeymoon. The prize includes roundtrip airfare to a U.S. destination of their choice, three nights of hotel accommodations, a four-day car rental, and $500 in spending money.
So, where do the couple plan to go next?
"Rhonda is leaning towards Las Vegas, if the trip is real," Jeff laughed. Despite being married for 16 years, his wife still finds the win hard to believe. "Vegas would be perfect for renewing our vows. So, ‘Viva Las Vegas’ it will be!"
