America’s Promise?"The Alliance for Youth, guided by its Founding Chairman Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), initiated an innovative competition to discover the 100 Best Communities for Young People. This effort seeks to highlight cities, towns, and counties dedicated to creating nurturing environments that allow young people to flourish. The inaugural event drew participation from over 1,000 communities across 40 states.
Building on this success, America’s Promise is hosting a series of five regional 100 Best Forums. These gatherings will offer a platform for communities to share strategies for fostering healthy, safe, and supportive settings that empower youth to become productive citizens.
The forums aim to uncover and promote exemplary practices from nonprofits, businesses, government, policymakers, educators, and youth and civic leaders. They will also encourage local collaboration to ensure that all young people receive the Five Promises essential for success: caring adults, safe spaces, a healthy start, effective education, and opportunities to contribute to their communities. Attendees will learn how to participate in the upcoming 100 Best Communities for Young People competition, set to begin in Fall 2006.
State Farm will be the title sponsor of the forums, with additional support from the Ford Motor Company Fund and New Century Financial Corporation.
Communities nationwide are invited to join one of the forums, scheduled for:
- June 8-9, 2006, Long Beach, California
- July 27-28, 2006, Providence, Rhode Island
- September 14-15, 2006, Charlotte, North Carolina
- September 28-29, 2006, Indianapolis, Indiana
- October 12-13, 2006, Denver, Colorado
In addition to engaging sessions and workshops, participants will enjoy a continental breakfast and lunch, as well as an evening reception each day.
