What You Say Is Revealing But What Do You Really Want

What Do You Really Want?
Summary:
Ever notice how conversations reveal more than we think? The words we choose and our body language can be insightful, showing us how we feel about our journey and the progress we've made.
In over twenty years of coaching, Jo and I have observed that people often pursue clear goals, like wanting more money or seeking fulfilling relationships. But what do they truly desire?
Often, people express their desires with ownership?"saying, "I want success to be mine." But is this really the case? It seems people don't just want the success of a relationship; they want meaningful connections. They don't just want wealth but want to earn money doing something fulfilling.
Ultimately, we don't crave ownership of money, relationships, or well-being; we yearn for feelings of abundance, love, connection, and health. Dr. William Bloom, in "The Endorphin Effect," beautifully states that success should feel internal, not depend on external factors.
Let's put this into practice with today's exercise:
Exercise:
1. Visualize something you desire. Imagine it vividly?"see it, feel it, smell it.
2. Immerse yourself in the feelings of having it. Embrace the emotions.
3. Now ask yourself: would you prefer the object without the feeling, or the feeling without the object?
This exploration aligns with insights from Kim Eng, the wife of Eckhart Tolle, who recently spoke in Bristol. She discussed how desire can lead to suffering, as it often involves seeking something outside ourselves. Eng suggests we are already whole, and desiring beyond ourselves can detract from our sense of self.
Combining these ideas with today's exercise might reveal that what we truly seek is already within us?"a source of well-being, love, and connection. Our challenge is simply remembering this.
