What Can You Say "Yes!" To?
Summary
I recently committed to a 21-day community phone-based meditation. Although the 7am call seemed daunting, I was eager to embrace the meditation experience and connect with the community.
Each morning, I woke up at 6:30am for the 7am meditation. This reminded me of what I disliked about the corporate world: alarm clocks. Despite the challenge, I was committed and enjoying the process. However, by day 9, I hit a wall.
The Challenge
Waking up tired and grouchy, I was frustrated with my commitment. I felt like I was failing, with my mind fixated on what I couldn’t do. Then, a breakthrough question changed everything: What can you say "Yes!" to? This simple shift in perspective was enlightening.
Embracing "Yes!"
My life and work often revolve around asking this question. It transformed my meditation experience. I realized I wasn’t breaking my commitment; I was simply adapting. The 7am call was my sticking point, but I found a solution that energized me. To my surprise, everyone supported my decision.
The next day, with a refreshed mindset, I had the best meditation session yet. Saying "Yes!" instead of focusing on "No" transformed my energy and enthusiasm.
Moving Forward
When faced with challenges, I focus on what I want and need, and what I'm willing to do. Sometimes, it takes an outside perspective to gain clarity.
So, how do you start saying "Yes!" instead of "No"? First, listen to your body. Is it energized or depleted? Identify what would invigorate you. Seek outside support or a fresh perspective if needed. Find the elements that make you shout "YES!" and embrace them.
Now, say "Yes!" and move forward with confidence.
