Article Body:
John, one of your issues is rushing all the time. Yesterday in the parking lot, you were in a hurry. Today at lunch, you are rushing again. Take time to enjoy life. Everyone has the same 24 hours each day; it’s how you use them that matters.

"I didn’t feel like getting preached to today,” I thought, but I tried to be polite. “Easy for you to say,” I replied. “I have responsibilities?"a business to run. Sometimes the stress really gets to me.”

"Only if you let it. Everyone has responsibilities."

"You know, the word responsibility can mean 'ability to respond.' Are you running a business or does the business run you?"

Even though I’d just met him, he certainly had a lot of opinions. Still, I enjoy a good philosophical discussion, and he had a point. "You seem to have it easy," I quipped. "Where do you work?"

A strange look flickered in his dark eyes. "I’m a troubleshooter," he said, "a jack-of-all-trades. You might call me a consultant."

"And your company?"

"G & M Enterprises, Inc. Not a car company. You probably haven’t heard of it."

"I haven't. Is it a large corporation?"

"Quite diverse, in many countries, headquartered in the Big City with branches everywhere."

"And what do they do?"

"We’re more of a service company."

Sensing his reluctance to offer more details, I asked, "Are you on vacation now?"

"No, actually I’m on assignment. I’ll be in this area for a bit."

"Do you live around here?"

"Not really, just passing through. Once I'm done here, I'll be on the move again."

"Hope they give you a better car," I laughed, recalling his previous car troubles.

He smiled and shifted the conversation back. "So, business not going well?"

"We’ve been struggling. Sometimes we see a light at the tunnel's end, but usually, it's a freight train. It's tough." I was surprised at how openly I was talking to a stranger, but it felt different this time.

"Why struggle? A seasoned swimmer doesn’t fight the water; they flow with it. Let the river of life carry you."

The restaurant was almost empty now. We had finished our brief lunch. Only two tables were occupied. I checked my watch; it was time to go. But he seemed to want to tell me something more. This feeling of anticipation?"or maybe unpreparedness?"lingered. I paid the bill, and though he offered to pay his share, I refused. He thanked me and stood up.

"Do you have a business card?" I asked. He gave me one. "Thanks. I need to get back to the chaos at work."

"Be grateful you have a job," he said as we walked to the door. I wondered if he was setting me up for something, yet I found myself liking him.

As we said goodbye, I expressed my hope that we’d meet again. He nodded, “Who knows? It’s a small world,” he said, waving and leaving.

I returned to my office. During lunch, there was a kindness and a strange power around Gideon. Back in the sunlight, the mystery seemed to dissolve.

The afternoon went smoothly with fewer difficulties than the morning had. I occasionally glanced out the window toward where I first saw Gideon, wondering if I’d see him again.

That evening, I was hosting a small dinner party for friends and neighbors. A storm seemed imminent. I decided to leave early to beat the rain.

As I approached my driveway, all the lights went out. Perhaps the storm had started. Then it broke with furious wind and rain?"lightning flashing brilliantly. Thunder roared like the gods on Mount Olympus. I barely could see as I drove, and with the power out, I couldn’t open the garage door. I rushed inside, drenched from the rain.

Everything was dark except for a few candles my spouse had found. Our guests arrived, and we made the best of things by candlelight, marveling at nature's fury. “It’s strange,” one guest said. “The storm only hit here. Down the street, there’s no rain.”

“And their lights are on,” he added.

A storm in just a few blocks? For no reason, I thought of Gideon. Just then, a flash of lightning lit up the sky, and our power returned. We discussed the odd storm further, and I couldn’t shake the feeling it was somehow tied to Gideon, though it made no sense.
