"How many universes are there, Marla?"
"How many grains of sand in the desert? How many stars in the sky?" she answered swiftly.
We all fell silent. The gentle rustle of the wind through the leaves was the only sound. "Does this mean there are other civilizations and beings on other planets and star systems?" I inquired.
"Yes, John," Gideon said. "There are many life forms across the universes, designed to exist in harmony. Just as ants coexist with elephants on Earth, humans should coexist with each other and with other life forms."
"Are some other civilizations more advanced than ours, Gideon?"
"‘Advanced’ isn’t quite right. ‘Aware’ is more apt, but for now, let’s say 'advanced.' Just as some Earth life forms are more evolved, some civilizations in the universe are far more advanced than yours. Some are less developed. There are beings so aware of their power they create through pure thought. Others engage in conflicts but all strive for unity with their Creator?"the same Creator who made you and us. We have direct access to Him."
"Can I see Him again, like I did in the Big City?" I stammered.
"That’s why we're going to System 22. In a few days, we’ll visit our Universal Headquarters, where you’ll meet the Chief again and ask all your questions. Reflect on what you’ve heard tonight. We must take you back now, but we’ll inform you when it’s time for the journey."
Suddenly, there was a hissing sound and a flash of light. I found myself wide awake in bed. Marla and Gideon were gone, but one thing was clear: it was not a dream.
