Years passed, and under the gentle guidance of the Guru, most of the disciples achieved their goals. Finally, the shy disciple gathered the courage to approach the Guru. "Master," he said, "I have practiced tirelessly all these years. Do you see that city across the river? I can now walk on water and reach it. I have mastered this skill."
The old master looked at him with a hint of sadness and asked, "Why didn't you just take the boat? It would have saved you so much time."
John, the disciple, realized that when you know you can walk on water, sometimes it’s wiser to simply take the boat.
Somewhat puzzled by the story's lesson, I mumbled, unsure of its meaning. I often preferred straightforward conversations to riddles. I then shifted the topic, asking about our upcoming meeting.
"I’ve made all the necessary arrangements," the master assured me. "You’re expected."
"Are they your business associates?" I inquired.
"Business associates and friends," he replied.
"Do you think they might help my company?" I asked. "We’re in need of a loan to continue our operations."
"It’s a distinct possibility."
His short responses were beginning to frustrate me. Though annoyed, I refrained from pressing further, realizing I was preoccupied with my own problems, oblivious to his potential concerns. Yet, with his wisdom and power, I wondered if he had any problems at all.
Interrupting my thoughts, he said, "Even God has problems. It’s how they’re solved that’s interesting."
"God shouldn’t have problems, Gideon," I argued. "God can do anything."
"True," he conceded, "but even God dislikes boredom. Endless existence without challenges leads to ultimate boredom."
He fell silent once more, and I let him be. The drive to the city wasn’t too bad, though I generally dislike navigating through traffic.
On the way, a flock of seven gulls flew above the car, capturing my attention. As I counted them, Gideon spoke again. "A flock of gulls by day; a pillar of fire by night," he mused.
"Pardon?" I asked.
"The ancient Israelites were guided in the wilderness by a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night," he explained.
"Three cheers for the Israelites," I mumbled, still confused by his reference.
