Despite being used to such remarks from June, her words caught me off guard, especially since only the three of us were in the room, and I was the only man there.

I glanced at the piano bench and saw it was empty. “What man are you talking about, June?” I asked.
She replied, “The one over there. He’s looking at you and smiling now.”
“Don’t play tricks on us. You know I can’t see anyone sitting there.”
June continued, “He says you know him, John, that you've met before. He has a beard and dark, piercing eyes. He wants to help you grow and learn, and says you’ve been experiencing things without truly growing from them.”
The description made sense. “That’s Gideon,” I thought. “What’s his name, June?”
“I can’t quite get the exact sound, but it seems like Simeon, or no…it starts with a G. Yes, his name is Gideon. He said you’d recognize the spelling from a license plate you saw recently. He laughed when he mentioned that. He suggests keeping an open mind. He’s saying goodbye now and that he’ll see you again soon. And now he’s gone.”
So, it was Gideon again. But this time, I couldn’t see him. Neither could Mardai. Only June had the ability to see things others couldn’t. We talked about it for a while, and I recounted my past encounters with Gideon. June seemed to understand and, like Gideon, encouraged me to keep an open mind.
“Your strict scientific background causes you to stumble often, John,” June said.
Perhaps she was right. I had always relied on logic. My training as a chemist and mathematician during college?"working in labs, conducting research, and analyzing data?"made me insist on seeing before believing. This persisted despite my acceptance of June and her abilities.
Yet, my most successful moments came when I followed that still, small voice. Some call it gut feeling, others intuition. The times I faced the most challenges were when I ignored this inner voice for the sake of logic and analysis. I realized I needed to balance logic with intuition, to let them collaborate rather than conflict. From that moment on, I committed to following my inner guidance more consistently.
