As evening settled in, the office became quiet. I was alone, wrapping up the remaining tasks of the day. It’s rare for me to stay late, but today was different. While I felt a sense of accomplishment, I was also frustrated by the tasks left undone.My office, located at the end of the building, overlooked an empty parking lot except for my little car, patiently waiting as always. I thought it was time to leave. Fortunately, at this hour, the traffic would be light.
As I reached for my briefcase and glanced out the window, I noticed a blue car a few spaces away, its hood raised. Someone appeared to be fixing it. Cars with issues often ended up in our lot, so I wasn’t surprised. I set the night alarm and headed out.
The blue car was still there. Curious to see if I could help, I approached cautiously. A bearded face smiled at me from behind the window.
“What took you so long? I thought you changed your mind,” he said. The boldness! A stranger asking what took me so long. Still, it was curious that he seemed to be expecting me.
I called out, “Try the motor again,” as I peered under the hood. To my surprise, the engine immediately purred to life. The man exited his car, extended his hand, and said, “Hi! It’s good to see you again for the first time. My name is Gideon.”
“Hello, Mr. Gideon, nice to meet you,” I replied, shaking his hand. “My name is John.”
“Yes, I know,” he said, catching me off guard. I had never seen him before. Dressed in blue jeans and a flannel shirt, he appeared between fifty and sixty years old. He wasn’t tall, with jet black hair neatly combed, and a full beard the same color. His eyes, though, were striking?"filled with both determination and kindness, telling a story of their own.
Even in the fading light, I was captivated by his presence.
