"No way, Dad," Jonathan retorted. "She let it slip! Mom said you'd be here."
I greeted them, almost as if such surprises were common. Curious, I asked, "Your mom told you I’d be here?"
"Of course," Malika replied cheerfully. "We visit with Mommy often. She shares so much whenever we see her." Though I suspected, I hesitated to question further.
They walked over to join the conversation with Pandayji. Watching them with Mardai, I realized it was the first time in years that our whole family was together. Though part of me knew this moment was fleeting, I wanted to cherish every second.
"They look so happy," Mardai observed. "I've never truly left them, you know. I visit whenever I can and continue to teach them. They’re accustomed to these meetings. I never left you either. For Malika and Jonathan, this might linger as a dream. The same goes for Pandayji, who's now discussing something important with Marla and Gideon."
"Do they know each other?" I asked.
She nodded. "Absolutely. Many of us belong to a large extended family and meet to catch up now and then. Pandayji has always been like a brother. Remember how he helped us during the complex adoption process for Malika and Jonathan? Without him, achieving such a feat would have been impossible. When the judge finalized the adoption, Marla and Gideon stood right behind him. And there's Butch, whose bond with you seems to inspire magic in others’ lives. It feels like we've all known each other forever. Some faces might not be recognizable at first, but they are an integral part of our story."
