With the challenges of next week far from my mind, I was determined to make the most of this weekend. Comfortably cocooned, I must have nodded off, only to be awakened by Marla’s voice. “We'll be there soon,” she said. “Do you want to relax for a bit or jump straight into exploring the island? Gideon will join us in a few hours.”
“I'm looking forward to a wonderful weekend, Marla,” I responded, stifling a yawn. “I'm open to anything you have in mind. It’s a bit embarrassing I dozed off,” I admitted.
Marla smiled. “No worries; anything you’d like to do is fine with me. I've been here many times, and remember, I can travel anywhere, any time. But going on journeys like this is always exciting.”
Hoping she couldn’t read my mind, I pondered a few indulgent activities I’d enjoy. She smiled knowingly, and I felt a wave of gratitude. Leaning over, I gently kissed her cheek. “Thank you,” I whispered. “Thank you both for making all this possible.”
“Don’t mention it,” she replied quietly. “It feels special and fitting. You deserve all the best.”
Before long, we landed on an enchanting tropical island. After quickly passing through immigration, we headed out when I heard hurried footsteps. A man approached us, waving enthusiastically. “Who is that, Marla?” I asked. “He seems to recognize us.”
Smiling, Marla replied, “Oh, that’s our driver. He’ll take us to the hotel.”
