He replied, "No specific reason. Just wanted to remind you that it’s not about having the answers. We already have those. What we need are the right questions..."
I interrupted, "What about those beginnings and endings you mentioned?"
"Words are merely symbols," he explained. "They hint at truths but aren't the truths themselves. It's like mistaking the map for the territory. Speaking of journeys, are you still interested in that trip?"
"What should I pack, and when do we leave?" I asked.
"No need to pack anything," he assured. "Much of this journey is internal. As for when?"it happens when the time is right."
"Where are we going, Gideon? What are we searching for?"
"You’re seeking the ultimate secret of life, John?"the one written in a book you found under the mango tree when you were seven. You couldn’t read it then, as you didn’t understand the language."
"So you knew about that, Gideon? Was it truly the secret of life? Just a few words?"
"Simple, yes. Easy, no," he replied.
"Do you think we’ll ever find it?" I wondered.
"It's not about finding it, John," Gideon said. "It's about recognizing it."
"I'm looking forward to this," was all I could manage to say.
"Don’t worry, John," he comforted. "We'll handle everything. Marla will join us too. That's all for now. You'll hear from us soon." With that, the call ended.
Although the day had barely begun, it felt as if I had been awake for hours. Just then, I heard footsteps on the stairs. Malika entered the kitchen with a "Good morning," mentioning a bizarre dream about birds reading books, though she couldn't recall the details. Curious, I thought... very curious.
