I couldn’t contain my impatience any longer. “Why the delay?” I exclaimed, leaping from my chair and waving my hands. I had started to suspect the whole thing was made up, growing tired of asking and getting evasive answers. “So, what is it? What’s the greatest secret?”
Gideon spoke deliberately. “The greatest secret isn’t really a secret. It’s something we all instinctively know but rarely recognize in our hearts. There’s a difference between knowing about something and truly understanding it. It’s the most open secret, written in almost all scriptures. Yet, we often overlook it because humans tend to complicate simple truths.”
“Just tell me, Gideon,” I interrupted impatiently.
His tone became firm. “Patience is a virtue, John. Learn it, and you'll hear the universe’s rhythm.”
Feeling guilty, I apologized. “Sorry, please continue.”
“The greatest secret is to develop a close and personal relationship with God, and everything else will fall into place. It’s that simple. So simple that most people dismiss it. Remember, this can only be achieved from within.”
I stared at him, barely believing what I heard. That was the secret? After all this time, the answer was simply about building a relationship with God? I burst out laughing, unable to stop until Marla’s voice cut through. “What’s so funny, John?” she asked. “I don’t find it amusing at all.”
