Article Body:
It's 2008, and like every year before, you've likely set some New Year's resolutions. By February, however, these goals often fade as life gets busy.
Let's change that this year with a simple, five-step process that is easy, practical, and effective. Start right now to make the changes you need for a happier life.
Step 1: Acknowledge Your Achievements
Reflect on the past year, considering its highs and lows. Spend at least five minutes reviewing what you accomplished. Then, answer these questions:
- My biggest achievements in 2007 were...
- Some things I wanted but didn’t achieve are...
- What stopped me was...
Step 2: Create Your Future
As you plan the year ahead, remember that many of your desires can be realized. Use three paper circles labeled "Same," "Better," and "Best" as your 2008 film reels. Think about what you want in areas such as relationships, career, personal growth, and more. Choose a reel and write your script for the year.
Step 3: Make It Feel Real
Walt Disney once said, "If you can dream it, you can do it." Visualization is a powerful precursor to success. Create a Vision Board by cutting out images, words, and patterns from magazines that represent your dreams. Make a collage that captures what achieving your goals looks and feels like, and immerse yourself in the experience.
Step 4: Prepare Yourself for the Journey
Change breeds resistance, as it's often easier to stay in your comfort zone. However, to achieve different outcomes, you'll need to make changes. In a journal, create three columns titled "The Change," "The Obstacle," and "The Solution." List the changes needed, identify obstacles, and brainstorm solutions. When there's a will, there's a way!
Step 5: Prioritize and Go for It!
Focus is crucial to turning ideas into action. Prioritize specific and achievable goals, and ensure you have someone to keep you accountable. Review your progress and list up to five goals. Nominate someone to report to and decide how and when you'll update them.
