New Age Spirituality: Morning Has Been All Night Coming (Part 73)

A Morning Revelation

In the midst of piecing together my thoughts, a sudden banging on my bedroom door jolted me. As they often did, Malika and Jonathan burst in.

“Hi, Daddy!” Jonathan shouted.

“We thought you were sleeping,” Malika added. “But when we heard the phone, we knew you had to be awake.”

“Hi, kids,” I said. “Is everything okay?”

Seeing the confusion on my face, Malika replied, “Yes, of course. What’s the matter, Daddy?”

“Nothing. Did you and Jonathan enjoy last evening? You didn’t give the babysitter a hard time, I hope.”

“Babysitter?” Malika asked. “What babysitter?”

“The one who took care of you last night,” I explained. “What do you think I’m talking about?”

“We didn’t have a babysitter last night, Daddy. Are you sure you’re okay?”

“Maybe you were asleep and the phone woke you up in the middle of a dream,” Jonathan suggested.

I looked at them curiously and said, “Yes, I must have been dreaming. It all seemed so real.”

“Tell us about your dream, Daddy,” Malika urged.

“It was about going out to dinner with friends and leaving you two with a sitter. Dreams are strange like that, feeling so real.”

“You were exhausted when you got home from the office yesterday,” Malika recalled. "Right after dinner, you said you needed a nap, changed into your nightclothes, and fell asleep. It was pretty early. You really slept a long time. I hope you’re feeling better now.”

“And you left the lights on, Daddy,” Jonathan chimed in. “Malika and I turned them off.”

“Thank you,” I said. “Let’s go get cleaned up, and I’ll join you for breakfast in a few minutes.”

A Weekend Routine

Once out of bed, I headed downstairs. Saturdays and Sundays were our special days. The children attended school during the week while I worked at the office, so weekends were reserved for quality time together. They grow up fast, and I cherished every moment. Despite the challenges of parenting, the joy and love made it all worthwhile. Today promised to be fun, like most Saturdays.

After breakfast, the children went to visit a friend. I took the opportunity to rearrange some books while listening to music. Last night’s dream lingered in my mind?"the sound of mournful bagpipes and the ocean crashing against a village shore felt so real.

While lost in thought, I noticed a sheet of paper at the foot of my bed. “Paper comes from trees,” I mused. Oddly, Theo had been talking about trees last night. Theo? Of course, the dream. But dreams and reality are separate worlds.

I picked up the paper, assuming it was one of the kids’. In elegant writing, it read: “Dinner at the Restaurant at the Edge of Eternity 7:00 P.M.” I stared in amazement. Perhaps my dream wasn't just a dream after all.
