You spoke with your father who passed away years ago, and dismiss it as mere imagination? Listen, John, there's a very fine line between reality and dreams. Each is valid in their respective dimensions. The challenge is recognizing the difference and applying the wisdom gained from both."
"I'm sorry if I seem stubborn, Marla," I responded. "Life can be bewildering. One day everything's perfect; the next, the world feels against you. I’d love for God to explain, in a few simple sentences, how to navigate life successfully. Could we arrange another meeting to finally get my questions answered?"
Gideon chimed in, "We could arrange meetings with those figures. However, they can't change your life?"only you can. Whatever else you might say about life, one absolute truth is that life just is. Not death and taxes. Just life and the universe."
"I seem to be poor company tonight, my friends," I admitted. "Maybe I just need some rest. Can we continue this conversation another time?"
Theo stood, wished us a pleasant evening, and left, leaving just Gideon, Marla, and me.
"Yes, it's time for you to get back," Marla agreed as we prepared to leave.
"Thank you for a wonderful evening," I said. "I wish I had been better company."
