Forgetting who we truly are happens all too easily. Negative emotions like fear, frustration, anger, doubt, greed, and selfishness contribute to this amnesia. In contrast, love, peace, joy, serenity, compassion, and solitude help us remember our connection to the divine, reinforcing our existence and worth. Many of us are so preoccupied with earning a living that we forget to cultivate a meaningful life.
As we walked, the tranquility and confidence that had been elusive earlier returned. We paused to savor the fresh ocean air. The full moon illuminated the night, its light harmonizing with the waves and rustling leaves to create a symphony more captivating than the fabled song of the sirens from Ulysses.
We retraced our steps to the spot where I first met Marla. As I reflected on the evening, I glanced at her in admiration. Our worlds seemed so different, yet she appeared near perfection?"a radiant mind and spirit in an enchanting form. The moonlight played off her golden hair, creating a halo of dancing stars. It was not hard to imagine falling in love with such a vision.
We had been silent, enveloped in the beauty around us. When Marla finally spoke, her words startled me. "I never understood why people always fall in love," she said. "Wouldn't it be better if they rose in love?"
"You're reading my thoughts again, Marla," I replied, a bit embarrassed.
She smiled gently. "I never invade others' privacy. It's only ever done in emergencies and always for their benefit."
