How Do You View Your Debt?
Are you burdened by debt, feeling trapped with no escape? Have you considered that your perspective on debt might be the issue?
At some point, everything in your life was something you desired. You might say you didn't want the debt, but you did want what came with it?"whether it was a house, a car, repairs, or clothes.
Debt was a pathway to achieving a dream, a means to an end. It might not have been the most thought-out dream, but it was one nonetheless.
Consider any debt you have, big or small. What did you gain from it? You received something in exchange?"an equal trade?"but now, you might feel the value of what you received doesn't match the burden you carry.
Think back to a time before this debt existed, to when you desired that particular thing enough to believe no debt was too great. Back then, it seemed like a fair deal, possibly even favorable.
What Has Debt Done for You?
Many would argue it has done nothing but cause stress or worry, maybe even physical symptoms like an ulcer. However, has it also offered comfort?
For some, debt meant peace of mind, knowing mortgage payments were made on time. For others, it enabled the purchase of a home, allowed them to feed their children, or covered essentials until payday. It might have even provided for Christmas gifts. Now, years later, the same debt seems burdensome. It's fascinating how our perceptions shift over time.
Remove the debt you now resent, and recall the benefits it brought. How different would your current life be without that?
