From movie stars to gospel singers, the race is on to share the secrets of success. These "keys" are often claimed to be the only way to achieve prosperity. Lists abound: seven keys to financial wealth, twelve keys to a more powerful life, or three keys to tranquility. But are these truly the essence of success?

Over my thirty-five years of faith, I've asked countless questions in prayer. For half of that time, I sought an answer to "What is success?" Recently, I've gained clarity by observing both successful people and so-called "losers." Surprisingly, success often depends on personal definitions and little else.

If a person's idea of success is flawed, even those at the top might actually be losing. Conversely, those deemed "losers" could be quite successful. But what does that imply?

Take the biblical account of Jesus being tempted by Satan. Satan offered him dominion over the known world (Luke 4:5-6). Few ever receive such an offer, though many strive for power. Figures like Caesar, Hitler, and Saddam Hussein pursued dominance, but have we ever questioned where these kingdoms came from? How could Satan offer them, and by what right?

Without delving into theology, let's consider Satan's role. He is not a Hollywood monster or Dante's master of Hades, but the chief victim of hell. He’s not a spectral presence in cults. The Bible describes him as the ruler of this world's evil system, encompassing power, fame, fortune, and more. These allurements are within his reach until the second coming of Christ.

When a wealthy mogul shares their "amazing secrets" on talk shows, they likely don't realize the true source of their success. They may not even know where the door is, let alone the key. Similarly, actors applauded for degrading art may never grasp that their success wasn’t of their own making.

When Satan tempted Christ, he promised worldly power: "The devil led him to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, 'I will give you all their authority and splendor...'" (Luke 4:5-7).

Many keys offered to unsuspecting audiences are no more than prideful anecdotes. People attribute their rise to their own efforts, blinded by pride to the fact that success was given to them. Before promoting one's "gospel of success," it’s crucial to examine its true source.

The origin of worldly success is seldom questioned. Credit is often given to individual effort and outcomes, while ignoring the source. Amassing wealth is seen as success, even if it comes from unethical means like selling pornography. Governing a kingdom is perceived as success, regardless of the means. Being globally recognized as an actor is deemed successful, even if the work undermines moral values.

Searching for a key to success? Here’s one: I can't claim credit, as it's God-given. Without it, even your triumphs may become failures. It's known as the Key of David.

"These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens, no one can shut; and what he shuts, no one can open" (Revelation 3:7).

What is this key? It’s your faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Without placing your life in his hands, success is elusive. You might die poor, unhealthy, and unknown, yet if your life is in His hands, you’ve succeeded. That's real success!

To go further, here’s the door this key unlocks. The rest is up to you. Jesus declared, "I am the door; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture" (John 10:9).
