Discovering Awe in Our Faith
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
A sense of wonder often captures our hearts when we reflect on God, His creation, and the incredible works of His hands. I vividly recall sharing these musings with a colleague at work. One day, she exclaimed, "Bill, you just wonder TOO MUCH!"
Too much? The thought had never struck me before. Is there a limit to wonder, or had I ventured into uncharted territory?
I find comfort in a quote I once encountered: "The highest state to which man can ascend is a state of wonder." Though I can't recall the source, this idea resonates with my natural inclination to ponder.
I've used the word "wonder" in two senses here: to express curiosity and to arrive at a sense of awe. Reflecting on God, His creation, and the promise of eternal life naturally leads us to this awe. How truly awesome is our God!

Reaching awe doesn't require pondering the universe’s mysteries or imagining heaven. It happens when I consider His grace, forgiveness, and infinite love. I’m instantly moved when I think of His love for me.
Reflect on the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). To grasp God's nature, meditate on this passage. The father waits and watches for the son's return. When he sees him, he RUNS to greet him, disregarding explanations. The son is welcomed back as if resurrected from the dead. God loves us just as unconditionally!
Each time I revisit this story, its depth amazes me anew.
