KABBALAH OF LOVE II: Unlocking the Secret Power of Ego

Summary

We all yearn for love, but often our ego gets in the way. However, the ego can also be a positive force. By understanding its role in creation, it can become your greatest ally on life’s journey.

Embracing True Love

Do you long for love? Most of us do. The connection with another soul is a powerful remedy to the loneliness we often feel and can be the most rewarding and fulfilling experience.

Yet, why do we often avoid intimacy by being defensive, angry, or judgmental, blocking the very experiences we crave?

Ego: Friend or Foe?

We naturally reinforce our ego-based identity, our sense of self. While the ego plays a crucial role in life, it doesn’t have the power to love. The ego is self-centered, often mistaking need for love and enjoying how others make it feel. However, true love transcends the ego. To experience genuine love, we must access a part of ourselves beyond it.

The Reality of Ego

Understanding the nature of the ego helps. Our ego-based identity is an illusion, sustained by the stories we tell ourselves. It’s essentially a continuous monologue that reinforces our sense of self.

We often compare ourselves to others: “I’m better than him, smarter than her, worse than I should be.” This ongoing dialogue defines our ego by relating to people and ideas around us. This process is non-stop, anchoring our sense of identity.

When confronted with challenges to our beliefs, it can feel like a threat to our survival, since our ego is built on these beliefs. Being “right” bolsters our ego; being “wrong” threatens it.

Discovering Your True Self

Thankfully, there's another part of you: your core essence, your authentic self. Unlike the ego, this part has intrinsic reality, independent of external circumstances or stories. It’s not threatened by others' success or failure. In fact, it thrives on them.

Visualize your ego as the ocean's surface?"changeable and vulnerable?"while your core is the deep, calm water beneath, teeming with life and potential. Transformation involves seeing beyond the surface and connecting with these deep waters, expanding your sense of reality.

Personal Insight

Last year, I learned an invaluable lesson from a common experience. My husband was late without calling, and as my anger grew, I prepared to confront him. But then I had a moment of clarity.

I saw our future interaction: I’d express my anger until he admitted his fault, validating my feelings, then we’d reconcile, but only after diminishing his ego and inflating mine.

However, I realized I could skip the drama, choosing to act from a deeper, more authentic part of myself. I saw the absurdity in the cycle of ego-driven reactions and chose to break free, guided by a glimpse of my core self.

Ego and the Purpose of Creation

Creation unfolded in three stages:

1. Stage One: God’s infinite light filled all space, leaving no room for anything else.

2. Stage Two: God concealed this light, creating space for the universe and myriad limited perspectives to exist.

3. Stage Three: This stage merges infinite and finite. It’s a transformative journey where we move from concealment to revealing our divine source.

Our ego plays a central role. It conceals our essence, allowing us to experience life as individuals with unique perspectives. But the ultimate goal is to transcend this individuality and reconnect with our divine source.

Transforming Ego

We’re in the Era of Transformation, where the ego can align with the authentic self. The ego need not be defended or suppressed; it can be transformed to enhance our relationship with the Creator and fulfill our purpose.

Your defensive reactions may persist, but you can use them to connect with deeper parts of yourself. By choosing to observe rather than react, questioning your instincts, empathizing with others, admitting faults, or engaging in generous acts, you turn the ego into an ally.

Whenever you use your body, mind, time, or resources to fulfill an authentic purpose?"doing intrinsically good or godly acts?"they become holy. You create light that transforms the world's darkness.

Note: In accordance with tradition, God’s name is written without the “o” to prevent erasure if necessary.
