Hey, Get the Phone! (It's for You!)
Summary:
As Christians, we've all had those profound moments when we feel God's presence in unmistakable ways. However, the true longing is for a consistent, intimate relationship with God, similar to what Adam and Eve experienced in the Garden of Eden.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I’m sure many of you are familiar with the tale of the two prospectors debating the best way to train a mule. One advocates firmness to establish authority, while the other believes in gentleness. To demonstrate, the gentle prospector unexpectedly hits the mule on the head with a log, explaining he needed the mule's attention first.
This story highlights how I sometimes wish God would communicate with me?"with clarity that leaves no doubt. I don't seek a dramatic or harsh encounter, just an undeniable connection that assures me of His presence.
Consider how God spoke to Moses in a burning bush (Exodus 3:1-6). Imagine being in Moses’ shoes?"called by God from the flames, removing your sandals on holy ground. Similarly, God’s encounter with Saul on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3-6) was unmistakable, albeit intense.
What I truly desire, however, is not these rare dramatic moments but rather an ongoing, intimate relationship with God. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, we've been gifted that opportunity. Jesus’ death and resurrection restored our connection, allowing us to be seen as blameless in God’s eyes.
So how do we nurture this relationship? God offers a simple promise: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” (Jeremiah 3:3 NIV). God longs to reveal Himself to us, and He will answer when we call upon Him.
The Gospel is beautifully simple: God does it all. The relationship we seek begins with recognition of our need for Him, belief in Jesus as our Savior, and acceptance of His sacrifice. This grace is the foundation of our faith, making God responsible for building that intimate bond with us.
To deepen this connection, we need to earnestly ask God to make His presence known in our lives. Pray to Him with sincerity: "Lord, I want to experience You daily. Help me hear Your voice distinctly and draw me nearer to You."
Avoid doubts or excuses?"commit wholeheartedly. Just as our salvation came from asking, so does our walk with Jesus. He is our Shepherd, and we are His sheep. Let Him know you want to recognize His voice, and watch as your prayer life transforms.
Reflect on Twila Paris’ song, “When You Speak To Me,” which perfectly captures the tranquility and fulfillment of listening to God. When God speaks, He pours light into our hearts, providing peace and strength.
Fellow believers, our yearning for a deep connection with Him stems from His desire for the same. Embrace this relationship, listen to His voice, and let Him fill you with His presence.
With love,
Brother Bill
