My name is Stephen Hill, and I struggled with a stammer for 18 years. Although I attended various speech therapy sessions, none offered a complete solution.At 22, after dedicating considerable effort, I overcame my stammer and now assist others in achieving fluency.
Situations Where I Struggled Most
I often experienced difficulty in situations such as:- Ordering food and drinks at a bar
- Making phone calls
- Introducing people
- Meeting new people
- Speaking under pressure
- Talking when tired or stressed
A Challenging Memory
On my first day of senior school, our teacher asked each student to stand up and introduce themselves. Sitting at the back, I watched as others spoke. When it was finally my turn, anxiety overwhelmed me, and I couldn’t utter a single word. It was incredibly humiliating and one of many hard days during my struggle with stammering.Life After Stammering
Now that I speak without fear, life feels significantly lighter and less burdensome. Helping others is immensely rewarding, like when one woman, initially nervous, attended my course with her husband. She dedicated herself to improving and sent me a heartfelt card expressing her progress. Humorously, she mentioned that her husband jokingly complained because she now never stops talking. It brought a smile to my face.Through my journey, I have found purpose in supporting others on their path to fluency, helping them find their voice and confidence.
