Stay Strong: You Can Make It
Summary
Life's pressures are inevitable, but they shape us into who we are meant to be. Just like how diamonds are formed under pressure, so can we become our best selves through life's challenges.Article
What is your deepest fear? This powerful question is often pondered, serving as a reminder of our potential. Just recently, I watched "Akeelah and the Bee," where a memorable poem discusses this very fear. Many of us choose the easiest path in life, avoiding challenges. However, these obstacles are essential to mold us into our true selves. Unfortunately, many miss the chance to grow, surrendering to life's pressures.
I once delivered a sermon on this topic at my father's church in Mechanicsville, VA. I illustrated how a diamond, one of our most valued treasures, begins as mere coal. Only the coal that withstands immense pressure transforms into a diamond. Similarly, we must endure life's pressures to become who we are meant to be. Instead of looking externally for reasons to quit, embrace the pressure and emerge as a diamond.
The poem I mentioned begins with profound insight: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us." As children, we have lofty dreams and goals. Sadly, many settle for whatever life offers, rather than chasing what is rightfully theirs.
You have the promise of peace, joy, and prosperity. Yet, when times get tough, too many give up. You can't be a blessing to others unless you stand firm under pressure and transform into the diamond you’re destined to be.
Our collective success depends on each of us fulfilling our potential. Consider the likes of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, and Frederick Douglass. Their courage in the face of adversity paved the way for future generations. Imagine who might miss out if you don’t fulfill your purpose.
The Bible tells us that the path to destruction is wide, but the path to our true potential is strait, meaning challenging. Such challenges build character and leadership. See difficulties not as setbacks but as opportunities to create something precious within yourself.
You already possess everything you need to become great. Never let circumstances defeat you. Embrace struggle as a vital part of growth. Remember, you are being shaped into something extraordinary. Keep going. You can make it.
