You Are Empowered by God
Summary:
Our actions can either facilitate or hinder our prayers from being answered. Is God waiting for you to take the next step?
---
Did you know that God has provided ways in His Word to empower His children? There are specific actions you can take to contribute to answered prayers, good health, and a peaceful life. It's true!
Once we are saved, we don't just passively float through our days hoping for God's favor. His Word provides guidelines for actions that can set His hand in motion.
Covenant Promises
Open your Bible and explore the verses where God outlines the promises He is eager to grant His children. Take Deuteronomy 28, for example, which is filled with blessings. Notice how the chapter begins:
"Now it shall come to pass, IF you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God."
At the end of this blessings section (verse 13), it reiterates: "And the Lord shall make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only and not be beneath, IF you heed the commandments of the Lord your God."
These "if/then" promises are known as covenant promises. They function like contractual agreements where one party acts, then the other fulfills their part. God empowers us to have influence over certain circumstances through these covenant blessings.
You Go First
God often requires us to act according to His Word before we receive His rewards. He empowers us to do what's right and then blesses us once we follow through.
Luke chapter six provides excellent examples. In verse 37, Jesus instructs, "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned."
Verse 38 continues: "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over; men shall give into your bosom. For with the same measure you use, it shall be measured back to you."
Again, we take the first step. If we give, we shall receive in return. Whatever measure we use in giving, God uses the same measure toward us. We hold the control and initiate the process.
I Peter 3:7 offers another example: "Husbands, likewise, dwell with [your wives] with understanding, giving honor to the wife as the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered."
When husbands treat their wives as God instructs, they strengthen their prayers. If they act otherwise, their prayers may be hindered. Here, the husband holds the power.
As you study your Bible this week, take note of the times God empowers us. Consider making a list or marking verses to remind yourself when to act and how to unlock God's best in your life. Often, our actions are all that stand between us and answered prayers. Is God waiting on you?
