In today's world, embracing true beauty isn't easy. Women are constantly bombarded with images and messages that emphasize our imperfections. Beauty industries and advertisers profit by convincing us that perfection is attainable through buying their products, following specific diets, or using particular exercise equipment. The cycle seems endless.
Unfortunately, many women fall into this trap, spending substantial amounts on cosmetics that clutter our drawers, buying exercise videos and equipment endorsed by seemingly perfect spokespeople, and subjecting ourselves to painful beauty treatments like waxing, shaving, and even plastic surgery. For what? To chase an ever-elusive ideal of beauty.
Don't get me wrong?"I'm not against grooming. I shave my legs, wear makeup, and avoid socks with sandals. But I hope that if I couldn't use any beauty products or shed those extra pounds, I’d still feel beautiful. Beyond physical enhancements, I’m a unique and lovely person.
As a mother to a daughter, this is particularly important to me. I dread the day she might come home hurt by someone calling her ugly. We know children can be cruel, often echoing what they hear at home.
I want to show her that beauty isn't about clothes, makeup, or weight. I hope she understands that true beauty radiates from within through acts of kindness, self-respect, the joy of being with loved ones, and the willingness to make sacrifices for others. True beauty is loving yourself regardless of your shade, size, financial situation, or education. As she grows in this appearance-obsessed world, I want her to see her reflection with confidence and peace. I am only now reaching this understanding myself.
It has taken years of spending and self-doubt to finally realize that true beauty cannot be found in a bottle but must come from within.
