Our church encourages parents to read a Bible story to their children daily, so storytelling has become a regular bedtime routine with my son, Noah. Sometimes we choose stories that align with Christian holidays, and other times we let the colorful illustrations guide us. Among Noah’s favorites are Noah’s Ark, Zacchaeus?"because he loves the song?"and, of course, Jonah.

Here’s Noah’s take on Jonah:
God told Jonah to go to a special place, but Jonah didn’t listen. Instead, he sailed to another city. As a consequence, God sent a storm, and Jonah was thrown overboard, swallowed by a giant fish. After three days, God allowed Jonah to leave the fish. Finally, Jonah obeyed.
Noah told Fred: "You have to listen to God, or you'll get a time-out too!"

We learned rules as children for similar reasons, but as adults, consequences become less explicit, manifesting socially or financially, not as literal time-outs.
Without a giant whale looming, it’s easy to overlook these subtle punishments. Yet, as a Christian, I believe God’s message is straightforward: love Him by loving and helping others. Jesus’ teachings revolve around this simple yet profound truth.
