As Long As You Try Your Best, There's No Such Thing as Failure
Summary:
I always emphasize to my children that if they give their best effort, failure doesn't exist. This is a belief I hold dearly and strive to instill in them.
Article:
I often remind my children that as long as they try their best, there's no such thing as failure. This is a philosophy I deeply believe in and aim to pass on to them.
During my time in the insurance industry, I regularly undertook insurance exams. I studied diligently and gave it my all, but the results were limited to three outcomes: distinction, pass, or fail. I despise the term "fail" because, in their view, I failed twice. But did I really? I did everything I could, so how can that be called failure?
Labeling someone with "fail" is not only negative but also unnecessarily harsh. It offers no insight. Did I miss the mark by a wide margin, just a few points, or somewhere in between? Rather than a stark fail, I believe we should receive grades, perhaps ranging from an A for excellent performance to a G for the poorest.
I discussed this topic with a colleague who agreed with my perspective. He shared an incident from his school days where he overheard teachers harshly critiquing his sister's exam results. Knowing the effort she had put in, he confronted the teacher, asserting that in his eyes, she had passed every one of those exams.
In life, if you put forth your best effort, you can do no more.
